The California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program provides national norm-reference test results for schools, counties, districts, and the state beginning in 1998. The national norm-referenced test from 1998-2002 was the Stanford Achievement Test Series, Ninth Edition (Stanford 9). This was replaced by California Achievement Tests, Sixth Edition Survey (CAT/6 Survey) in the spring of 2003. These tests allow comparisons to be made to a national sample of students. Please note that not all categories of test results are available for all years.

Users of these summary results should use extreme caution in making direct comparisons between test results in 1998-2002 and later years because these results come from two test series with different formats and difficulty levels. For more information on the STAR Program, see STAR Test Background.

See also STAR detailed categories, which contain results from additional STAR tests. These tests began in 2003.
