West Nile Virus (NY only)

Summary: Number of live and dead birds, horses, human cases and deaths, and mosquito pools realted to the West Nile Virus (WNV)

This database reports the number of live and dead birds, horses, human cases and deaths, and mosquito pools realted to the West Nile Virus (WNV), including cases of West Nile fever.  The number of birds is not reported after 2008.  The cateogry "others" may include dogs and cows that test positive.

Due to travel, reported illnesses may have been acquired outside of the area of reported WNV.  Not all animals testing positive are necessarily ill or symptomatic of WNV infection. Some specimens are tested only for surveillance purposes. The total number of WNV-positive mammals or birds depends on the amount of surveillance and testing in each county, and is not necessarily associated with degree of WNV risk.
