This database contains changes in prices for urban consumers (CPI-U), including summary prices for a representative basket of goods and services.  Data are reported as the change in price (in percent) over the preceding 12-month period or as the index value for time period, where the base year is 1982-1984 (index value = 100).  For more detailed information, see Inflation Background.
