In 2013, the U.S. held steady at 17.1% of GDP being driven by health spending. This level has remained steady since 2009, before the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Over the 14 years prior, the share grew from 13.16%. Spending in countries in the European Union remains flat at 10.1%. Among all countries in the world captured in the data, only Tuvalu spends a higher share of GDP on healthcare.
